2005년 서울대학교 재료공학부에서 유기 형광나노구조체 관련 연구로 공학박사 학위를 받았으며, 같은 연도에 한국고분자학회에서 우수학위논문상을 수여받았다. 그리고 2005년부터 2009년까지 영국 옥스퍼드대학교(2005~2007년) 및 호주 퀸즐랜드대학교(2007~2009년)에서 박사후 연구원으로 근무하였다. 2010년부터는 가톨릭대학교 화학과에서 전임강사, 조교수, 부교수 및 교수로 재직하고 있으며, 현재까지 우수 강의 교원으로 8회 선정되었다. 주된 연구 분야는 유기 광전자 소재 및 유기 나노구조체 합성과 응용이며, 최근에는 유기 태양전지, 이차전지용 유기 양극재 및 초소수성 표면 분야에 대한 연구를 관심 있게 진행하고 있다.
In 2005, he received a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the Seoul National University, specializing in research on organic fluorescent nanostructures. During the same year, he was awarded the Outstanding Dissertation Award by the Polymer Society of Korea. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of Oxford (UK, 2005-2007) and the University of Queensland (Australia, 2007-2009), he joined the Catholic University of Korea as a faculty member in 2010. Since 2010, he has been serving as a lecturer, assistant professor, associate professor, and currently as a professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Catholic University of Korea, and has been selected as an Best Teaching Professor for eight times to date. His research areas include the synthesis and application of organic optoelectronic materials and organic nanostructures. His current research interests are mainly focused on organic solar cells, organic electrode materials for secondary batteries, and superhydrophobic coatings.
